I have a cousin who has been on the run since 2006 and ever since went to a drug treatment program which she has graduated from and now has 2 children. She works 2 part time jobs & has been working since 2008 till present. How shall she turn herself in? She has no one to care for her children & her boyfriend needs to work to pay the bills. Should she get a lawyer?

yes, get a lawyer. She needs to face those charges and deal with them. Make sure she has documented paperwork for her drug treatment graduation and any thing else that might show how she is committed to being clean and obeying laws.
She might even be able to get a public defender which is free. She should only turn her self in once she’s spoken with the lawyer as the lawyer should be with her when she turns herself in. This will provide her with the best chance of NOT getting remanded to the jail and being able to still take care of the kids.
But! be prepared that the court and judge will remand her due to her history or being on the run and a bail will be set if she chooses to bail out of jail while her case goes to court.

Hi my name is Melissa and quite frankly i am i tired of having my sister make my family’s life a living hell. She is 16, she goes out and parties every weekend, has sex does drugs, and fights with my mom. She has a serious problem. She has done stuff to make my mom look like the bad guy and she has had to go to court and pay huge fines for the things that she has done. I am thinking about talking to mom about sending her to military school, bording school, some sort of boot camp. Or something that can send her away so she can be changed into a better person. Ever since her father died, my friend just sort of threw her life away. She began taking drugs and hanging out with people that she never would have hung out with before. I was surprised to hear her voice on the phone last night. She told me she dreamt about her dad and that her dad wants her to go back to how she once was. I think that got her to think about getting herself treated. I told her I’d help her find a treatment center.

Whoa, I’m sure it must have been tough for your friend– dealing with her father’s death and all. A lot of times, it’s stress that gets people to try drugs. That and the need to escape reality for a while. I’m really glad that your friend has already decided to turn over a new leaf.
