Cocaine Use Stats?

Question by Hunter: Cocaine Use Stats?
Is there any SCIENTIFIC information out there on the percentage of cocaine users who turn into cocaine abusers?

By “abusers” I mean using the drug in excess to where it interferes with daily functioning (job, family, etc.), because I know that there are some people who are able to do drugs on a daily basis and still maintain “normal” lives.

Thank you!

Best answer:

Answer by Indiana Frenchman
depends but most of them do “abuse”

When a patient comes in with unexplained personality changes including irritability, lack of concentration, compulsive behaviors, insomnia and weight loss, then cocaine abuse should be considered (Sadock, 2003). Like alcoholics who will only participate in situations where drinking is acceptable or where they can “sneak a drink” in, cocaine abusers frequently run to a private area once or twice an hour to get high.

In some ways, cocaine abuse may be easier to recognize than alcohol abuse because of physical symptoms apparent even when an individual is sober and not experiencing withdrawal symptoms. The most common form of cocaine ingestion, “snorting”, often causes extreme damage to nasal cavity, in which users will often try to self-medicate with nasal decongestants (Sadock, 2003).

As in alcohol abuse, cocaine abuse can also cause psychotic, mood, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Symptoms of withdrawal include fatigue, unpleasant dreams, insomnia, increased appetite, or psychomotor irregularities (Sadock, 2003). Withdrawal symptoms are apt to be much less severe than those seen in heavy alcohol abusers, and with mild or moderate abuse, regularly reside within 18 hours (2003).

Best answer:

Answer by bailie28
he is working to give his body something to do…he is reading the bible because they believe that the key to his addiction is a failing in not understanding there is a higher power you can turn too..would you rather he be sitting in a room and not doing anything so his mind could wonder to what he could be doing if not in rehab? we lived in nc for ten years..i knew someone who went to a drug rehab im not sure that this is the same one..but i know it was a religious one and he worked his butt off…it took two times going in but he has been crack free for seven years…so perhaps you should give it some more time..he has to want to be clean to get clean…good luck to you and him

dream about drug addiction?

Question by Dawg the Bounty Hunter: dream about drug addiction?
I’ve been trying to recover from simultaneous adderall and xanax addictions over the past month, and I’ve been feeling withdrawals really hard. I had a dream last night that kinda scared me. I think its about being at war with myself trying to win, but i want to keep it open to other opinions.

In the dream:
I woke up in a seemingly empty warehouse, with four overhead lights turned on, fixated on where I was lying. I was wearing white sweat pants and a white t shirt, no shoes, gloves or anything else. Out of the shadows came a guy wearing black sweat pants and a white t shirt with a black “executioner” mask on, who was my size in height and weight. I instantly knew I had to fight him, and win, because I knew was here to kill me. So a fist fight started, mostly him knocking me around left and right, and knocking me down. I was barely getting any hits in, and when I did they weren’t doing much to stop him. Both being determined to stand and win, we were toe to toe throwing punches and kicks, and we both passed out from exhaustion at the same time. When I became conscious again, I crawled over to where he was lying, took off the executioner mask he was wearing, and he woke up. The other guy was me, beaten and bloody, and looking like one of the guys you see on the “never touch meth” commercials. The executioner version of me started laughing. I can’t remember anything happening next, but I woke up sweaty and pale white. The dream was in first person and the mood was kinda terrified, but motivated, because I knew that if this guy in the dream won, he would have killed me.

Drug Dreams are very very common, if you had gone to treatment (which I highly recommend if you have problems staying clean) you would share these drug dreams every morning with others who have had similar dreams. When I first got clean from adderrall I had dreams for about the first month and then every other week after that…they stopped after about 3 months, but still pop up after 3 years of being sober! It is your brain’s way of healing, the pathways created by the habit of doing drugs are being changed now by not succumbing to feelings that make you want to use – at night your brain heals and tries to make sense of the new pathways you are creating. Be thankful they are just dreams and you didn’t use. If you have trouble staying sober I would recommend these places: http://www.whitesidemanor.com/, http://www.pinegrovetreatment.com/, http://www.cottonwooddetucson.com/
