Does anyone know of a good residental drug rehab center either in the U.S. or Canada?

Question by SHELTIELUVER: Does anyone know of a good residental drug rehab center either in the U.S. or Canada?
Have you gone to one or had a family member or friend that has? I’m looking for a place that is reasonably priced. I can only pay maybe $ 13,000 at the most for 30 days unless they offer financial assistance. I have no insurance. I want to go somewhere that is in a peaceful setting, has a kind and educated staff, and has a gym so I can start getting myself back into shape and taking care of my body. I really want to get help. Have you heard of Clearhaven or Top of the World in Canada? Or the Meadows in Arizona? Help! There are just so many places.

Mandatory minimum sentencing in NJ- can it be avoided?

Question by Jody: Mandatory minimum sentencing in NJ- can it be avoided?
A dear friend of mine had to appear in court today on shoplifting & drug possession charges. His case was postponed because he had to apply for a public defender, because it’s his 3rd shoplifting charge and his 3rd drug charge so he is facing the possibility of mandatory minimum jail time. He is already on probation & parole for his previous charges in other towns, has successfully completed a community service program and is currently in an outpatient drug rehab program for probation 3 times a week. All of his charges are almost or over a year old; he completed a 6-month inpatient rehab program back in March and has been clean & sober for nearly 1 year now. He holds down a steady job and is very active & enthusiastic in a 12-step recovery fellowship, overall an extremely responsible & productive member of society today. So I guess my question is this: given the circumstances and the fact that he’s doing so well now, is there any way my friend could get his charges downgraded and/or avoid the mandatory minimum jail sentence (i.e. with more probation, community service etc)? I mean, would the PD be able to plea bargain it at all and/or would the prosecutor/judge have any kind of discretion whatsoever?

Best answer:

Answer by Betsy
Yes, the PD should be able to plea bargain it. The prosecutor would also have some discretion, but the judge would not.

Is there bail if your probation has been revoked?

Question by lovemybabies: Is there bail if your probation has been revoked?
I have a cousin who has been on the run since 2006 and ever since went to a drug treatment program which she has graduated from and now has 2 children. She works 2 part time jobs & has been working since 2008 till present. How shall she turn herself in? She has no one to care for her children & her boyfriend needs to work to pay the bills. Should she get a lawyer?

Best answer:

Answer by Bail Bonds
yes, get a lawyer. She needs to face those charges and deal with them. Make sure she has documented paperwork for her drug treatment graduation and any thing else that might show how she is committed to being clean and obeying laws.

She might even be able to get a public defender which is free. She should only turn her self in once she’s spoken with the lawyer as the lawyer should be with her when she turns herself in. This will provide her with the best chance of NOT getting remanded to the jail and being able to still take care of the kids.

But! be prepared that the court and judge will remand her due to her history or being on the run and a bail will be set if she chooses to bail out of jail while her case goes to court.

Can you kick a heroin addiction on your own without withdrawals?

Question by Mr. X: Can you kick a heroin addiction on your own without withdrawals?
Can you kick a heroin addiction by using less and less until you’re doing like 1 hit per month?

I am not using heroin, and I never will.

Best answer:

Answer by IndianaGirl
I’ve NEVER heard of anyone doing it and I don’t think at at point, you would do 1 hit per month. You would either have to go cold turkey, or get some medicine to help with withdrawals. One way to safely come off an opiate without any withdraws is by going on methadone. Herion has such quick highs and lows that it doesn’t last long enough to be able to wean your self off. Methadone is long acting so you only need it once per day. You can come down slowly and feel absolutely no withdrawals. But it is a slow process. For example, if you are a heavy herion user, you might start off at like 50 to 80 milligrams per day. You stay at that dose until your stable, maybe a month to 3 months. However long you feel comfortable. Then decrease 1 to 3 milligrams per week. It is a slow process, but you will feel absolutely NO withdrawals. Its a great way to get clean and live a normal life again. You don’t have to worry about where and when to get the next fix. And when your on methadone, it blocks the effects of all opiates so there is no point in taking them. That is how you get clean and kick the habit.
