child abuse reporting?

Question by Freeport77541: child abuse reporting?
I called in to provide information about a neighbor who is quite abusive to his child and has many domestic disputes almost on a daily basis last month. The local children and youth never investigated. I called in yesterday about the father was outside smoking what appeared to be illegal drugs with some of his friends. I called in again and a person from children and youth went to the house yesterday and spent about 5 minutes outside talking with just the mother and then drove directly over to my home and was very abusive with me and told me she was going to have the district attorney file charges against me for a false report. This is not right and i will never ever call in anything again.
i called the local office like many of you suggested but the supervisor was only a voice mail. I kept leaving messages and then was able to catch her late on friday but she was also very rude and had a “careless” attitude. What is wrong with people and where do i go from here ? I even called the tv news station but they were not interested in any information i have

Need advice on prescription drug abuse?

Question by Ry Fle: Need advice on prescription drug abuse?
I am addicted to Vicodin and need to know how do I go about getting help. Or is there any medicine that helps to wheen off of the drug. I have tried with doing it on my own but i start feeling hot, antsy, very restless and a bad uneasy feeling, diarrhea, headache, all of these symptoms plus more. I really need to know if there’s medicine or What do I do to get off of these. Oh also I was prescribed some when I first tried them and just like the feeling after I didn’t need them anymore and got addicted. Then i tried stopping but couldnt because of the effects when I tried stopping please any suggestion or comments that are helpful.

Answer by Kyle
There are several options for you when you decide to begin treatment for your Vicodin problems. The first decision you will have to make is whether you should enter an inpatient or outpatient rehab program. If your addiction is severe, entering a rehab center on an inpatient basis might be the most effective route to take. The best candidates for outpatient therapy are those who have a strong support network at home, consisting of friends and family.

Whether you choose an inpatient or outpatient program, you may opt to go through the process of withdrawal on a residential basis, where licensed medical personnel can help you get through the process with as little pain as possible.

Once you have decided on the type of program, you will need to figure out the best length of stay. Most researchers and physicians agree that one month is the shortest amount of time you should spend in rehab, as it may take the first few weeks before you are fairly recovered from the physical symptoms of Vicodin abuse. You may also choose 60- or 90-day programs.

You don’t have to make these decisions alone. Our counselors are standing by 24 hours a day, seven days per week to help guide you through this process. Contact them today at (800) 943-0566.

“Recovery” Just looking for others opinions on “drug addiction”?

Question by trish m: “Recovery” Just looking for others opinions on “drug addiction”?
how many of you believe that 12 step programs work? and how many of you know someone who has given up everything that matters for their drug of choice? Just sincere answers please…
You have pointed out one of the main things that needs to be there “willingness” good job!
I’m an addict in recovery (5yrs) and I know each person is different. some just quit, others use AA/NA, and then some need a combo of the AA and therapy… One thing that all addicts lack is the ability to cope with life on life’s terms. If an addict doesn’t learn to cope then they tend to just switch addictions… from drugs to others i.e. eating, gambleing, workaholic, thank you guys for your answers and I’ll give this question till the end of the day..

Answer by debb_michele
I had gotten into drugs and alcohol for a while, and I’m only 15. The fact is I didn’t want to stop, no matter who said what I just didn’t. So I found out the hard way, that you cannot quite unless you really [[100%]] want to. It took someone special leaving me for me to quite. But I have alot of friends into drugs and they give up alot for drugs… I haven’t seen any of the therapy things working for them, because they didn’t want to quit. Hope that answers your question, just my opinion.

Answer by lotus4yoga
Well, I don’t like the AA thing about “I’m powerless.” Plus they seem sort of cult-like. Most people quit drugs on their own when they’ve just had enough of it. But they never show up in statistics cause nobody knows – they don’t go to a hospital or AA or anything – they just quit. (My husband was a heroin addict for years before I knew him and then he was in a methadone program but he quit on his own. No NA or anything. I mean, he went to therapy for over a year but he’s really healthy now. Seriously healthy.)
Your last detail with the coping ability is absolutely the answer. Any addiction to anything came from not looking honestly, openly, at life because you’re scared or you want things to be different from what they actually are. You just don’t feel good enough the way you are. Some people come to the realization that they are good enough, that things are just as they are supposed to be, through therapy or some people have these really dramatic “quantum changes.” I’ve heard it described as feeling something physically pulling on you or like a bolt of lightning – and suddenly you’re different.
