What treatment center?

Question by jadehope: What treatment center?
hi I’m a 19 year old female who has been secretly suffering from anorexia and bulimia for about 4 years. I have decided it’s time to tell my parents and receive treatment but I don’t know which treatment center is right for me. I know a lot of treatment centers also deal with other mental illnesses like bipolar disorder among others and also addiction to drugs and alcohol. however I do not abuse or even use drugs or alcohol and the only mental illness I have is anorexia and bulimia. I want to make sure im picking the right treatment center for me. does anyone have any suggestions? by the way I live in new York so anything in that area would be more convient, but I’m not opposed to going out of state. and I’m also looking for an inpatient program.

You might get better answers and some personal experiences if you put this question in the mental health section rather than cancer.
To answer this question largely depends on where you live and what insurance you have. The hospitals I work for that have physic units handle a variety of problems and do not mix eating disorder patients with alcohol and drug abuse patient’s as the needs are different.
I am so glad you recognize your problem and want help fixing it. A lot of people don’t. You can do anything you set your mind to do. Best wishes.

Working in drug/addiction rehab centers?

Question by Ruby Alice Love: Working in drug/addiction rehab centers?
I’m currently a human development and family studies major but I have an undecided minor. I personally would like to be the one who’s in direct contact with patients during their withdrawal phases and being able to monitor them. I’m pretty sure that’s vague, but what job title is that specifically? In order to pursue this career would a biology minor benefit me more, would I need to go to medical school, what about grad school?

If it means anything I go to school in Nevada and I’d greatly appreciate some input and opinions.

Answer by drslowpoke
Actually, your question has a few answers and is more complex than you might have thought.

If you want close patient contact with a few patients, then you might consider nursing. In some cases, EMT’s are hired to monitor patients during withdrawal or recovery. This is a rather unglamorous job, and is on the low end of the scale. It can also be the most physically demanding. There are several levels here. The lowest is doing just patient contact. Higher levels will supervise the contact and intervene with their skills on an as needed basis (such as administering prescribed medications).

If you would like to work with a lot of patients, but on a more limited basis for each one, then working as a drug counselor, therapist, or something like a social worker would be the ticket. This is easier physically, but you end up with more responsibility overall.

If you want to work with even more patients, but only on a very limited basis for each one, then you might consider being a physician with an emphasis on drug treatments. Again, this can be physically demanding, but you also get paid better.

The upshot of all this is that you have quite a range of positions to choose from. Your current coursework puts you squarely in the middle of the positions for now.

Do you think politicians should get special treatment from courts? ?

Question by Yourmommadontdancetothattune??: Do you think politicians should get special treatment from courts? ?
Here’s an example for ya.
Tom Gosinski was fired from AVMT after expressing concerns about her addiction and habit of writing prescriptions in other people’s names to get drugs. He says that John McCain himself got her a diplomatic passport, which prevents customs officials from searching her bags, and his aides Mark Salter and Torie Clarke coordinated with him (Gosinski) on Cindy’s logistics for his trips abroad. (Mark Salter is still one of McCain’s top aides.) In 1993, Gosinski told the Drug Enforcement Agency that Cindy wrote false prescriptions in his name that year. McCain claims he didn’t know Cindy was an addict when he got her a diplomatic passport, but that’s hard to believe since she had a stretch in rehab back in 1991. Cindy McCain faced 20 years in prison for obtaining “a controlled substance by misrepresenting, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge.” With a wealthy father, high-priced lawyer and Senator husband, she got the lightest possible punishment — charges were dropped in return for her entering rehab. Any regular, much less poor person who had written fraudulent prescriptions, stolen narcotics from a charity and smuggled them around the world would have received several years in prison. Her doctor, for one, lost his license and never practiced again.

No, the law should treat people equally. This kind of corruption and shady inside dealings is another reason why McSame is an appropriate nickname. We’ve seen enough of this the last eight years and are faced with the devastating consequences now and for years to come.

In the Bush administration “the negation of truth is so systematic. Dishonest accounting, willful scientific illiteracy, bowdlerized federal fact sheets, payola paid to putative journalists, ‘news’ networks run by right-wing apparatchiks, think tanks devoted to propaganda rather than thought, the purging of intelligence gatherers and experts throughout the bureaucracy whose findings might refute the party line — this is the machinery of mendacity…The point here is not the hypocrisy involved, though that is egregious. The point is the downgrading of truth and honesty from principles with universal meaning to partisan weapons to be sheathed or drawn as necessary. No wonder the Bush administration feels no compunction to honor the truth or seek it; it conceives truth as a tactic, valuable only insofar as it is useful against one’s enemies.” Russ Rymer

America simply can’t afford four more years of the same.
