Male and female actually. Do females get preferrential treatment and placed in less dangerous areas? What other duties or ares con one go into with the C.O. title?

No, females do not get preferential treatment. If pregnant, the women are given different jobs.
As for what C/O’s do? Basically, they supervise the movement of inmates. There are positions that have little to no contact with inmates- control booth, etc.
