Why is enforcing the laws on illegal immigrants wrong?

Question by kmjurewicz: Why is enforcing the laws on illegal immigrants wrong?
So, if you are in the country illegally and the laws state you need to be here legally to work here and live, why is is wrong for local governments (like that in Hazelton PA who created local enforcement policy) to try and fix the problem? I understand for the most part those coming to the country are here trying to better themselves. I’m from a town that has something like 30% Polish immigrated citizens, my family included as well as many Irish and English and Russian. Why is it wrong to say if you are here illegally you can’t live in our town, wouldn’t this help the Federal Govt. get everything under control, since they just seem to be making the situation worse?

The Politically Correct reason is that Immigration and Naturalization are the Federal Governments Jurisdiction and State and/or local government do not have legal authority to deal with it.
The real reason is that the Fed employs hundreds of thousands of people spending millions and millions of dollars to create a bureaucratic mess to deal with the situation as inefficiently as possible. If the problem were ‘fixed’ think of the unemployment: can you see a former white-collar INS employee fixing the grout in your bathroom or doing yard work or any of the thousands of minimum wage, manual labor jobs done by illegals?
