Should all Drugs be legalized? illegalized?

Question by Mr J: Should all Drugs be legalized? illegalized?
I am talking about all drugs. I am sure there are a lot of people who are going to advocate Marijuana legalization on here. Potheads: go chill out and smoke a bowl “maaan”, your not aloud in this conversation.
The truth: Are you high on THC right now? You need to look at both sides of the argument.

There are also many arguments against legalization.

1.

Legalization would increase the number of casual users which, in turn, would increase the number of drug abusers.
2.

More drug users, abusers, and addicts would mean more health problems and lower economic productivity.
3.

Although legalization might result in savings in expensive criminal justice costs and provide tax revenues, increased public-health costs and reduced economic productivity due to more drug-dependent workers would offset the financial benefits of legalization.
4.

The argument based on the analogy between alcohol and tobacco versus psychoactive drugs is weak because its conclusion—psychoactive drugs should be legalized—does not follow from its premises. It is illogical to say that because alcohol and tobacco take a terrible toll (for example, they are
Legalizing all drugs or making all drugs illegal are both not the solution.
But, I knew a pothead would respond by saying all drugs should be legal, just for the sake of his precious weed so he can relax while everything goes to shit.

How does the drug program work inside federal prison?

Question by Chrystal B: How does the drug program work inside federal prison?

Best answer:

Answer by INSOMNIAC
Substance Abuse Treatment

In Fiscal Year 1989, the Bureau of Prisons designed a comprehensive substance abuse treatment strategy in an effort to change inmates’ criminal and drug-using behaviors. This strategy begins with drug abuse education and ends with a strong community transition component.

Inmates are required to participate in a drug abuse education course if (1) there is evidence in their presentence investigation report that alcohol or drugs contributed to the commission of their instant offense; (2) they violated supervised release, parole, conditions of a halfway house placement, or conditions of home confinement based on alcohol or drug use; or (3) the sentencing judge recommended that they participate in a drug treatment program during incarceration. In the drug abuse education course, inmates receive information about alcohol and drugs and the physical, social, and psychological impact of abusing these substances. Inmates who are identified as having a further need for treatment are encouraged to participate in non-residential or residential drug abuse treatment.

Non-residential drug abuse treatment and counseling are available at every Bureau institution. Treatment includes individual and group therapy, group counseling, and the use of interactive cognitive restructuring treatment modules that provide skills-building activities and prepare inmates for their transition to the community.

In addition, more than 50 Bureau institutions have residential drug abuse treatment programs (RDAP). Inmates who participate in the residential program are housed together in a separate unit of the prison that is reserved for drug treatment. The residential program provides intensive half-day programming, 5 days a week. The remainder of the day is spent in education, work skills training, and/or other inmate programming. Upon RDAP completion, aftercare treatment services are provided to the inmate while he/she is in the general population, and also later at the residential re-entry center. This maximizes the carry-over of skills, ensuring an effective transition from the institution program to the community~

Why do I have such bad PMS?

Question by Sara Black: Why do I have such bad PMS?
When I am on my peroid I have cramps from hell, I keep on gagging, have diariahia, cold sweats. How do I stop these symptoms?

Best answer:

Answer by Celsi
Considering that at least three of out of every four menstruating adolescent girls and adult women have PMS or premenstrual syndrome, there’s a good chance that you, also, have PMS. Before you can be sure that you have PMS, you need to journal your symptoms each day for at least two or three months. A diagnosis of PMS is possible only when both physical and mental or behavioral symptoms are present.
A Simple Menstrual Cycle Journal
Your menstrual cycle calendar exposes your symptoms so that their cyclic nature is clearly visible to your health care provider. Once you have kept track of your symptoms for two or three months, make an appointment at your gynecologist to show her your calendar.
You can use any type of journal or paper you want to use; however, it’s easier to see a pattern developing if you use a standard calendar with plenty of space for writing on each date. Your word processing program should have a calendar template you can print and use, if you don’t want to use your regular calendar.

The first day you see any amount of bleeding, write Day 1 on your calendar. You may also want to print a list of the physical and behavioral symptoms of PMS that follows, as well as the information about the diagnostic criteria for PMDD or premenstrual dysphoric disorder, the most severe form of PMS.

Next, take note of any symptoms that occur on any days of the month and rate each symptom you experience on a scale of from 1 to 10, with 1 meaning very mild or hardly noticeable symptoms, and 10 denoting any symptom severe enough to disrupt your daily routine.

Women whose symptoms of PMS are mild usually see the disappearance of their symptoms on Day 1, while women with more severe symptoms may have PMS or PMDD symptoms that last into Days 3 or 4 of their next menstrual cycle.
Note: True symptoms of PMS do not begin until after Day 13, any symptoms you experience earlier in your cycle may have another cause. However, you should still include any symptoms you experience on Days 1 to 13 on your menstrual cycle calendar.

PMS Diagnostic Criteria
The most commonly used and accepted diagnostic criteria for PMS is one developed by the University of California, San Diego. To meet these diagnostic criteria for PMS, a woman must self-report at least one physical symptom and one mental symptom during the five days preceding menstruation. These symptoms are:
The Physical Symptoms Of PMS
Sore, tender breasts

Headache

Abdominal bloating (the most common physical symptom)

Swelling of the extremities
Mental Symptoms of PMS
Fatigue (the most common mental symptom)

Angry outbursts or mood swings

Irritability

Confusion

Social withdrawal

The next requirement for a diagnosis of PMS is that these symptoms must disappear by Day 4 and not recur until Day 14.
Finally, these symptoms must be present in the absence of any pharmacological treatments, hormone ingestion, or drug or alcohol use.

Social or economic performance must also be identifiably dysfunctional by one of the following for true diagnosis of PMS.

Marriage or relationship issues, confirmed by the partner of the woman seeking diagnosis

Parenting problems

Decreased work or school performance or attendance (including being late)

Decrease in normal social activity

Legal issues

Contemplating suicide

Seeking medical attention for physical symptoms

Diagnostic Criteria for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder or PMDD
PMDD is a severe form of PMS that includes severe symptoms of depression, anxiety, and irritability before menstruation begins. These symptoms must occur during the last week before menstruation starts. Approximately three to eight percent of menstruating women experience PMDD. According to the DSM-IV, the accepted diagnostic criteria for PMDD must include at least five of the following symptoms:

Feeling sad, hopeless, or suicidal

Severe feelings of stress, tension, or anxiety or having panic attacks

Mood swings that include bouts of crying

Constant irritability or anger that affects other people

Loss of interest in usual daily activities and relationships

Problem with ability to concentrate or focus

Fatigue or loss of normal energy

Food cravings or bingeing

Question by ani s: Any drug rehabs in Bellflower, California, that administer buprenorphine?
My cousin is going to get herself treated for her heroin addiction and I want to suggest that she get treated with buprenorphine instead of methadone.

Best answer:

Answer by annelise LD
The links below will help you in finding drug rehabs. I think it would be best, though, to get your cousin to a doctor first. The doctor will know what kind of medication will be right for her. He will also tell her what kind of treatment program will be best for her and which rehab will be able to provide her with that kind of program. I do hope she gets treated soon.

How are prescription drugs so abused if ppl dont have a legitimate prescription?

Question by rtinsley30: How are prescription drugs so abused if ppl dont have a legitimate prescription?
I am inquiring for a paper I am writing for College Composition, on Drugs in Juvenile Justice. It shocked me that prescriptions are more abused than any other drug besides marijuana. However Marijuana hasnt caused any documented deaths, and kids are oversoding on medication. I realize millions of kids are prescribed meds for ADD, and ADHD, but I am curious about the ones who arent? Where do they get them from? Street prices are expensive, so are they stealing from their parents? Thanks for any suggestions, plz answer my other question if you can, I appreciate, and I am not looking for drugs, lol. Thanks

That’s the thing about something called pain. It can’t be proved. If you have an infection or a broken bone, there are definite signs. But if you’re in pain, who’s to say you’re not? (Just look at how many law suits there are with insurance companies over their disability rating all based on the “pain” the claimant must deal with.) It’s easier than you’d think to go to a doctor and claim pain to get narcotics. Then go to a different doctor in a different practice and claim the same thing. Get a different prescription. And so on. Then get the different prescriptions filled at different pharmacy chains. And it’s also possible to order narcotics online from a different country and have them shipped in. I know all of this because this is what an ex-coworker did to feed her addiction.

Also, if a person does have a legitimate prescription for something, such as ADD or ADHD, the kid doesn’t have to actually take the drug if they choose not to. Some people prefer money to wellness. Again, I know this from witnessing people selling their own prescriptions instead of taking them like they should.
