What are the long-term effects of yearly drug abuse (400 + mg of dyphenhydramine a night)?

Question by Edward: What are the long-term effects of yearly drug abuse (400 + mg of dyphenhydramine a night)?
I’ve recently caught up with an old friend and I’ve just learned about his ‘addiction’ (Bottle says ‘non-habit forming’) to over the counter sleeping pills containing dyphenhydramine, and he claims that he’s been taking four hundred plus mg a night of this stuff for years and has built a very strong tolerance so he’s had to take more to get the same affects out of it. He said he didn’t start out at four hundred mg, but his continued abuse of it led to more and more pills.

He’s really odd now. What are the long-term effects that this could have caused too him?

Best answer:

Answer by essentiallysolo
I’ll bet he’s odd. His liver is likely all fouled up and putting out toxins that damage the brain. Your friend should see a doctor before the damage is irreversible, if it isn’t already.

Vicodin for Migraine treatment?

Question by : Vicodin for Migraine treatment?
I am a 21 year old male severe migraine W/ aura sufferer and I have before been treated with triptons to no avail. On my recent attack I remembered I had 2 5/500mg Vicodin pills left over from a dental surgery I had a while back, so I figured “They helped me when I felt like I had knives in my mouth, I wonder if they’ll help with me horrific migraine pain”. And to my amazement it helped with my pain VERY effectively. My head still hurt, but no where near as bad as it normally does during an attack, and I was able to relax and go to sleep which is the one and only thing that makes my migraine go completely away. I want to tell my doctor about this, however, I won’t even bother if he is going to think of me as a drug seeker or if he is going to ignore me. Before you do the same please note, my migraines are NOT daily and a lot of times not even weekly and if prescribed I would only take it when I have an attack. Also note that I have been treated for migraines many many times before with all sorts of triptons and stopped treatment before my doc was gonna prescribe Topamax which is something I will NEVER take because of the horrible psychological side-effects. And I did not have any “rebound headache” that I heard you get from taking analgesics for migraines. So in short I want your opinion on this, do you think its worth telling my doctor? Or do you think he will completely blow it off or think I’m a drug addict?

Best answer:

Answer by livewire9
ask for a very small prescription… if you only have you’re migraines on occasion, it will be quite awhile before you need another prescription and the doctor will then know you’re not abusing them…

tempted by prescription drugs?

Question by korkykrayon: tempted by prescription drugs?
I’ve really been scaring myself lately. I find myself increasingly anxious and depressed, mostly at night when there is nothing to do, and it’s at this time, when I’m lying in bed or surfing the web that my mind drifts to drugs. I keep thinking about taking the prescription drugs that I know are in my house just out of curiosity. I’ve never even smoked weed so I have no history of being drug-curious, but for some reason, the allure is there. During the day, I think about what was going through my head the night before and almost laugh at the stupidity of it, but then that night, it happens all over again. Anyone heard of exhibiting the psychological signs of addiction without having taken the drug? Anyway. My main question is: what the hell is wrong with me? Why am I thinking about these drugs, and how can I stop? And I should mention that I can’t really throw the drugs out because they belong to my parents; they’d probably notice and assume I was doing them anyway. (Irony, anybody?)
“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard in my life.”
Big fan of that show. And thanks for the response.

Best answer:

Answer by belle
you are trying to escape your anxiety and depression and you think that by doing drugs you will be able to do so. theres nothing wrong with you, other than anxiety and depression. if you find that it is having a negative impact on your life, you should look into seeing a therapist. probably, if you had a better outlet to deal with your mental discomfort, you wouldn’t be tempted by drugs. as the great 13 once said “drugs are ALWAYS a mask for something else”. so what are you running from?
