Shakes due to years of Alcohol/Drug abuse…?

Question by Karenmurph: Shakes due to years of Alcohol/Drug abuse…?
My partner shakes, I think it is because he used to do a lot of drugs before me and also drank heavily. He is 33. Could it be a direct result of the substance abuse?

Best answer:

Answer by Nutritionally Fortified
Has he been checked out by a physician specializing in addiction treatment? How long has he been sober?

There’s no way for anyone in internet land to be able to tell. My guess would be yes, it is related to substance abuse. Substance abuse kills livers, ruins kidneys, interferes with the central nervous system, and kills irreplaceable brain cells, just to name a few issues.

Answer by Scott P
He could be shaking from withdrawals. If he were to successfully detox, the shakes might go away. However, with illicit drug use comes the chance of inadvertently using MPTP (1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine).

This is sometimes accidentally made when trying to synthesize heroin-like drugs. The side effects of this exposure include parkinsonism, which could present with shakes. These are potentially irreversible.

Answer by obie
i would say now these days you should be careful where ever you live. just be aware of your surroundings, carry some mace or some type of personal protection. walk with a friend if possible. tell people of your walking route and when to expect you. just use common sense and play it safe. good luck in your new place.
