i have to do an essay about drugs and alcohol and how today’s teens are familiar with the facts and dangers?

Question by Lisa: i have to do an essay about drugs and alcohol and how today’s teens are familiar with the facts and dangers?

Answer by MasterSweetie
Drug abuse among teens is spreading rapidly across Illinois. Drug addiction is considered a disease, and it is in fact spreading like a virus among our children. In this essay, we will try to explain why the drug abuse problem is so serious.
By drugs, we mean all the substances that have negative effects, especially on child’s health, including cigarettes and alcohol, beside over the counter drugs, prescription and illicit (street) drugs. Although not all of them has the same harmful effect, to a teenager any abuse of non-healthy substances can result in a serious development problems.
Teen drug abuse is habitual misuse of substances, in order to alter teen’s emotion, mood and state of consciousness. Most teens from Illinois, who develop habit of drug abusing, eventually develop dependence, too. It is hard to resist dependence when teens use drugs on regular bases, as almost every one of them has addicting attributes.
Drug addiction is even more dangerous than occasional use of drugs, of course. When a teen becomes an addict, almost nothing else matters to him, but his daily dose. Some of them even develop hard dependence that even one dose per day is not enough.
When teens want to get high, they don’t waver much and will use whatever they can. If they don’t have something stronger, many of them will empty your medicine cabinet or go and buy some legal drug that will alter their psychic for a little bit. In fact, many Illinois teens actually start by abusing prescription drugs, until they get bored with them and decide to switch to illegal drugs.
Teens that abuse any kind of drugs neglect everything else. From their love relationships and friends, family and house works, to school and other activities. Sadly, many even give up on sports and/or schoolwork and fail classes, as they find new joy in life. What seems to be a solution for their teen problems actually brings them more trouble, which can follow them through the rest of their life.
Many teens who start with drugs, never give it up, if they don’t have the proper support from parents and don’t get treatment on time. Even if they don’t continue abusing illicit drugs, there is a great chance they will be alcoholics or smokers. Teen drug abuse results in unsecured grown-ups, both socially and economically, and brings health troubles to many people.
Drug abuse and dependence costs money, so many teens are in constant need of it. They are forced to borrow money often, or lie to their parents why do they need it. Later, especially if they drop out school, they may turn to be unemployed, but still in need of drugs, so they turn to dealing drugs or other criminal activities.Biggest problems teen drug abusers get into are health troubles, of course. Drugs can affect every body part, especially lungs, liver, heart and brain. Many heart attacks and death of teens occur because of the often drug abuse or over dose. Overdose happens when teens take more quantity of drugs than what they used to or sometimes when they stumble to pure substance.
We hope that this essay helped you think a little more about this destructive problem many teens and parents deal with, and that you will pay more attention to your teen’s behavior and attitude about drugs. Data from Illinois clearly say that more parent have to involve in the drug abuse prevention, for the sake of their children.

Rehab or Substance abuse program?

Question by Angel Stokes: Rehab or Substance abuse program?
I don’t know anything about either. But my husband is a felon, and on probation. He apparently has been doing stuff lately. He is being accused of stealing. Don’t know if he did, or not…

He wants rehab… He wants to be done with this. He’s done great for so long (I think peer pressure has a lot to do with it) Because he has been clean for 2 years…

I don’t know if how this will go, but it doesn’t look good. My husband truly is a good guy, he’s been taking crunchbars lately, and he doesn’t remember anything… He’s just got a bad problem.

He wants rehab, but I’m wondering what would be better for him? Rehab or SAP? What is the benefits? What’s the cost? Are they basically the same program? Would one benefit him better than the other, if so, which one?

Does anyone know anything about stuff like this? My husband isn’t a thief, which is why I find it so hard to bel
My husband has passed several random drug test. His PO has come to our house a couple times, and he’s passed, when he goes there, he passes. Lately, he’s been noticeably messed up for people who can realize that…

Not all drug attics are bad people, that’s why there are so many past drug attics who now are doing great…
Also, since you are so involved in looking things up. Look up side effects of zanax/crunchbars, especially if abused. One of the biggest side effects is loss of memory while taking them… Either way, he wants help. It would be nice to know that someone does care about helping others… My husband has recognized his problem, he’s admitted (and he’s a very stubborn person) and he wants help. That’s always a start. Kindness is a virtue… You would feel otherwise, if it was a loved one… And, you knew that loved one was a good person…

If your husband actually wants to try to get help I applaud your desire to try to help him find treatment. However I am going to warn you from experience that it will be a long hard struggle ahead of you. You must also prepare yourself for the fact that he might not get better.

You also have to prepare yourself for the person that the drug creates. An addict will tell any lie, do anything, or cheat anybody for the drug. You will not know your husband anymore. He will tell you that it is all your fault and that you are making it up. This path is going to crush you too. In addition to finding treatment for your husband you need to find a support group or counseling for yourself as well.

I don’t know anything about SAP, but your husband does need help. He’s blacking out and is having trouble with the law, then he has a serious drug problem. It sounds as if inpatient treatment will be required for someone as bad as he is to start out with. Here in Missouri the inpatient treatment will also help with the probation problem. Melissa and Whitney were both allowed to stay out on probation as long as they completed an inpatient program.

In Missouri the state grants subsidies to treatment centers and the rehab center will offer free treatment, however there is often a waiting list on these centers. You have to call every morning to see if there is a bed available. If there is an opening you have to be the first one there to get the spot. These centers will often accept Medicaid, private insurance, or have a sliding income payment programs.

There are also outpatient treatment programs. Danielle went to a methadone clinic. There she would receive a daily dose of methadone that was supposed to help ween her off of the other drugs. They also provided a psychologist to talk to. I was paying out of pocket for that one and it cost me $ 110 a week.

When I went to look for treatment options I tried to google treatment facilities and went to the police station to see if they had a list of clinics. In the end I went to the hospital. In my case it was Cox North, which is part of a major metropolitan hospital system that has two large hospitals and tons of smaller local clinics and urgent care centers all around the area. The hospital had an outpatient treatment center but they also had a list of every inpatient center in Missouri as well as northern Arkansas. They helped to call around and see if there were any open beds in the area. They also helped refer aftercare treatment and outpatient treatment until a bed opened up.

Hopefully this helps you. I pray that you find the help you need to save your husband. Please also take care of yourself when you go through this.

Father is going for joint custody and claiming child as a dependent?

Question by kimballz: Father is going for joint custody and claiming child as a dependent?
I live in the state of MN, and have a 7 year old with a boy (whom is nearly 28 yrs old). I left him the day after our daughter turned 1. He was abusive, an alcoholic, and a drug user. For the past 7 years I have received just $ 225 in child support, he never calls to talk to her, never asks how she is doing in school, etc. However, his mother and step father received visitations with her. This is where I am confused and fearful that he might win. He, himself, NEVER has had visitations with her, except one time, we had a verbal agreement in 2008 that he would get her every other weekend as long as he was at his parents house. One morning at 6:30am I got a phone call from his step dad telling me that he had left int he middle of the night and hadn’t returned and his step dad needed to go to work, but no one was there to watch the child. At this point, I voided our agreement. He only had 3 actually weekends with her. He left the state of MN to Cali back in Oct of 2010 with the intentions of being gone for 7 years (did I mention he is a felon?) – he then came back just a few weeks later and got arrested. His parents wanted to take my daughter to the jail to see him and I said ABSOLUTELY NOT, that is not a place for a child to see their dad. They went against my wishes and since then, they have not spoken to her or seen her.
Her dad called to talk to her on her birthday in 2010 and she didn’t hear from him until her birthday this year. His parents asked if I would let them take her to a banquet at the end of Oct. and I said no. They then stated, “We’ll see you in court then” They obviously can’t go for visitation, but in the papers that were served to me it gives all these dates that they saw her (but no dates that her dad was with her). 1. can this even be used in a case concerning a father of a child vs. the mother? 2. Will that even stand?
He is also trying to get joint custody and he wants to claim her as a dependent on his 2011 taxes (he doesn’t even pay his child support, let alone she didn’t even live with him 6 months out of this year)
He’s also a recovering alcoholic and has APPARENTLY hit a one year sober date (though I find this to be highly doubtful) – his papers neglect to state that he is also a drug addict. He completed an inpatient treatment (apparently again – he’s in and out of jail and I have no idea how he has had time to complete an inpatient treatment program).
So, not only do I have those questions posted above about parenting time but what are HIS chances of getting joint custody?
Thanks for that!! So very true. And exactly what I was thinking – but it is still very stressful! I have documentation, in which has been provided to my lawyer of the issues in the past. The thing is, there is nothing of him trying to see or contact our daughter, it’s been strictly his parents trying to see her. Thank you again, this gives me some confidence!

You failed to mention what kind of custody order you have in place.

If you had none then you didn’t by law have to let anyone see her. If he tries to take it to court then you have your list of reasons why SUPERVISED visits for the father would be okay if done at a supervised visitation center at HIS expense. If you appear to be saying no in all forms the Judge won’t listen to your reasons he will assume you are just one of those mothers that thinks the kid is only yours….HOWEVER, if you detail with police reports, arrest reports, and e–mails your factual unbiased reasons why he needs to work back up to unsupervised visitation…then the Judge will listen.

the IRS says who ever had the child 50.1% of the nights this past year gets to claim them…if that was you then you claim the kid.

The father will also have to be fairly square on his child support before the Judge will consider his joint custody request seriously.

And I really hope you have a case open with child support enforcement because any money he does get back in taxes this year will be re-routed to YOU.

Help!!! General symptoms of drug addiction (opioid, subotex)?

Question by alter ego: Help!!! General symptoms of drug addiction (opioid, subotex)?
My husband has been smoking weed for long time, I don’t like that but have to deal with it, but lately I noticed that he has been acting different.
He comes home definitely not sober, when I ask a question he sais that it’s because he smoked weed, but I know all general symptoms of canabis so I am sure that he is lying. I think that he has been taking subotex – subotex addiction has become quite common this time in our country.
One more thing – last month when he was driving car he became sick, stoped the car threw up and his nose was bleeding. after a week same thing happened to him at home, I know everybody will thing it’s cocain but I know it’s not because that drug is quite expensive and I know he won’t afford it. So can someone tell me all syptoms of drug addiction from opiod group?
Thank you forwards

Subutex actually blocks the person from getting high from opiods. I can not believe that folks are using this to get high?

No wonder we have so many dying from misuse.
Anyway sorry to answer your question there are many signs that one is using opiates. I do wish to add though that Cocaine is not that expensive anymore. I am unsure where you live but it can be had for 10 to 20.00 a vial or bag so it is not as expensive as it once was.
Also many do sniff heroin as well as Oxycontin.
